ABOUT ORTHOTICS

Chronic foot pain is a symptom of an underlying issue. From plantar fasciitis to metatarsalgia, there are many reasons for why your feet could be hurting. It can also be noted chronic pain is a result of an untreated issue and points towards the fact that if it is left untreated, the pain will not go away.

Please visit ritegait.com/conditions to view common conditions that may be the reason for your foot pain. Additionally, you can find the root cause of your foot pain by booking an appointment at ritegait.com/contact to have our pedorthist do a full foot assessment.

Custom orthotics are footwear inserts designed to support your skeletal frame through your feet. They make sure your feet perform shock absorption correctly with every step, distribute pressure evenly across the feet and provide relief for many foot conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain) and Metatarsalgia (forefoot pain). Custom orthotics manufactured by a C.Ped (C) are durable products that will improve your health and keep you comfortable for a long time.

To understand the purpose of orthotics, let’s examine The Leaning Tower of Pisa.  The tower wasn’t designed to lean originally, but it started to do so because it had a poorly supported base. Likewise, your feet are the base of your body and for most people, they are not properly supported.

In fact, studies have shown that less than 10% of the world population have a neutral foot, meaning a foot that does not need special support when loaded with the body weight. This means that as you walk, stand, or do any activity involving your feet, your body absorbs the force incorrectly. This can either develop or worsen problems such as knee pain, heel pain and back pain.

A custom foot orthotic provides a solution by supporting and aligning the foot to correctly perform shock absorption and to disperse force evenly throughout your body. In fact, a foot orthotic can both help prevent problems associated with improper support, and also correct poorly aligned feet. If you’re looking to improve your quality of life, starting with your feet, give us a call. Based on your needs, we’ll create a specially tailored, hand-crafted orthotic solution, just for you.

Everyone’s feet are different. Non-custom orthotics work by categorizing problems and treating them. For example, you may have Morton’s Neuroma – a non-custom orthotic will try to solve this through a product that generally separates metatarsal bones. This is like a suit you can buy off-the-shelf – it gets the job done but it isn’t the best solution for you.

Rite Gait understands everyone’s feet are different. We create custom orthotics that are designed to target your specific condition and take into account factors such as activity levels, lifestyle, level of support necessary etc before handcrafting a solution unique to you.

This is a good question that many people do not know the answer to.

Custom-fit orthotics refer to prefabricated orthotics that try to provide a general solution to a specific problem. This is done by categorizing conditions and solutions into groups. An example of this would include a pair of prefabricated orthotics that are designed to target the condition Morton’s Neuroma. They would include a pad of sorts meant to raise the metatarsal bones and separate them. This pad would be located in the most general area so that users will have some relief. Unfortunately, not everyone’s bone structure and location of injury is the same.

Custom-made orthotics work in this case by inserting a separation point exactly between your metatarsal bones, in a manner that will separate the bones correctly while also keeping you comfortable. Rite Gait carries both custom-fit (prefabricated) and custom-made orthotics. Our pedorthist will prescribe the one for you depending on your budget and condition severity.

ABOUT US

Rite Gait Orthotics is unique. As a local foot clinic located in downtown Milton, we do our best every day to make sure that our patients get the best treatment we can provide. We believe in a patient-centered philosophy which states, “Our Handcrafted Orthotics, Your Health”.

Our patient-centered philosophy is exemplified through three factors:

  1. Personal Foot Assessments: Our pedorthist will conduct a personal foot assessment to determine your foot health. This includes a gait analysis, a biomechanical evaluation and discussion questionnaire designed to identify the problem. It also includes a plaster or foam casting. This will allow them to fully understand what the issue is in order to create the best custom orthotics for you.

  2. On-Site Lab: Unlike most foot clinics, we have an onsite lab which means the pedorthist who does your assessment is the pedorthist who creates your custom orthotics. There is no miscommunication or loss of information. Simply, a fully certified professional understands your problem and then creates a solution for it.

  3. C. Ped (C): Our pedorthist is designated as a Canadian Certified Pedorthist. This means they are educated in and are fully certified to assess a patient, design, and manufacture custom orthoses. They work with a doctor in that a doctor will refer a patient to the pedorthist to have custom orthotics created.

A Canadian Certified Pedorthist is a professional trained specifically in the foot health assessment process and the design and manufacturing of custom orthotics. Pedorthists are specialists that work with doctors in that the doctor will refer a patient to the pedorthist and the pedorthist will craft their orthotics.

Although there are many people that claim to be trained in the manufacturing of orthotics, be sure that the person crafting your orthotics is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist in order to get the highest quality, most legitimate product. You can find more information at the Pedorthist Association of Canada website.

The onsite lab was an investment Rite Gait made in order to provide a better service and product to their patients. Normal foot clinics outsource the manufacturing of their orthotics to a third party which may lead to a loss of information between the person doing your assessment and the person manufacturing your orthotics. At Rite Gait, the Canadian Certified Pedorthist that conducts your assessment is the same pedorthist that creates your orthotics. This leads to a product that is perfectly tailored to you and one that is designed for your lifestyle. We know there are a lot of details covered in an assessment and believe it is important that the person making your orthotics knows all the details.

No, we sell other products, but everything we sell has a focus on improving foot health. Our other product lines include quality footwear, compression stockings, knee and ankle bracing, non-custom orthotics and footcare lotions (dry skin etc.) and footcare accessories (nail files etc.).

Our products are complementary to our orthotics in that the best solution for your foot condition is usually a combination of custom orthotics and one of our other products. For a full catalogue of our products, which link directly to brand consumer websites, please visit our Products page.

Since the proper footwear is also extremely important in keeping your feet healthy, it can be especially noted that we carry a wide range of footwear. From athletic to work to dress to casual, we have many styles that both look fantastic and are good for your feet.

Rite Gait provides foot-care solutions for almost anyone with foot pain. For the most part, we create handcrafted, custom-made orthotics and sell quality, health-promoting footwear for Milton and it’s neighboring cities. We are proudly located in downtown Milton but we have had patients visit us from Georgetown to Mississauga to Oakville. Patients from these further cities usually come on a word of mouth basis after hearing from their friends and family about how the clinic helped cure their foot pain.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We start by having you sit down with an experienced Canadian Certified Pedorthist, to have a thorough assessment done on the health of your feet. This process involves discussing the everyday tolls on your feet, a gait analysis, a biomechanical evaluation, and addressing any general concerns you may have. Once our Pedorthist has enough information, the problem and your best treatment options, will be fully explained to you. If you decide to get custom orthotics, a three dimensional mold will be taken of your foot, to be used in creating your orthotics. The entire assessment is painless and you’ll be back on your feet within an hour.

Our custom orthotics can be modified to fit into any of the shoes we carry. Yes, that’s right – from our running shoes to our dress shoes to our safety shoes, our orthotics can be fully customized to make sure they fit. Additionally, if you’ve got a favourite pair of shoes, it’s most likely that the orthotics can be customized to fit into those shoes as well. We can perform modifications both to the shoes and the orthotics to create the perfect solution for your feet. Please give us a call or stop by the foot clinic if you’ve got a specific shoe you’re wondering about.

Yes, for insurance purposes, a doctors note or physicians referral is necessary to validate the purpose behind why you need orthotics. Once you’ve got a note, Rite Gait will work directly with you to create the best solution for your foot condition. Additionally, if you’re constantly performing activities that has the potential to cause foot pain, you can inquire with your doctor about custom orthotics for preventative purposes.

Typically, your orthotics will be ready for pickup 1 week after the assessment. After pickup, if your orthotics require modifications, they can be done in less than 20 min with the onsite lab. The cost of modifications is included in the original price of the orthotics as long as the modifications are done within a reasonable amount of time. You’ll most likely know if your orthotics need modifications within the first couple of weeks of wearing them.

This depends on the price difference between the products you’re looking for and the products your insurance provides coverage for. Say, for example, you have a coverage of $450 for custom orthotics and no coverage for shoes and you’d like a pair of custom orthotics ($450) and a pair of running shoes ($160). Depending on promotions or in-clinic discounts, your total out-of-pocket cost for both the orthotics and shoes would be anywhere between $50 – $160. Rite Gait constantly has sales and multiple promotions so please visit our foot clinic in downtown Milton to get an exact price.

No, custom orthotics are generally not covered under OHIP. However, most private insurance providers do provide partial or full coverage for custom orthotics. Your insurance representative will be able to provide full details on your coverage for orthotics. Furthermore, Rite Gait direct bills multiple insurance providers which means one less thing for you to worry about.
